Student Conference:
Biodiversity and Environmental Change
Stirling University 9th April 2010
In partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage & the Scottish Environment Protection Agency
REGISTRATION DEADLINE 22ND MARCH 2010
For the second year, Stirling University will be hosting a student conference sponsored by Scottish Natural Heritage and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
The year 2010 marks an important milestone in efforts to reduce global biodiversity loss. The Convention on Biological Diversity committed member states “to achieve by 2010 a significant reduction of the current rate of biodiversity loss at the global, regional and national level”. The focus of this day will be to examine biodiversity in the context of environmental change and look at where conservation efforts should be prioritised post-2010.
The aim of the day is twofold:
1. To showcase how research being conducted by students contributes to our understanding of biodiversity, environmental management and efforts to prioritise conservation action
2. To provide students, at any stage in their studies, with an opportunity to find out about the work of Government Agencies and Non Governmental Organisations in conservation and environmental management.
Plenary presentation: Professor James Bullock, Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (Dorset)
Postgraduate student presentations (oral and poster) will form the core of the symposium with additional talks on employment opportunities within the Government sector (SNH, SEPA, Research institutes). There will be a prize for the best oral and best poster presentation.
There will also be representatives from a number of organisations (both Government and Non Governmental Sector) who will be available to talk to during the breaks.
