Countermeasures can be used in the event of a nuclear accident to reduce the entry of radionuclides into the human foodchain. Long-term contamination of agricultural land may require measures such as deep ploughing, application of special fertilisers, changes in the feeding of livestock or even changes in land use. CESER is assessing the potential environmental and socio-economic impacts of countermeasures. The final outcome of the project will be a computer based decision support system for the management of radioactively contaminated land resources.
